10 Best Low-Calorie Beers That Don't Sacrifice Taste

Our August 2023 update ensured all picks were in stock.

We included extra information about each featured product based on Good Housekeeping Institute Nutrition Lab tests.

In a classic TV commercial, one set of men exclaimed "Less filling!" and the other shouted "Tastes great!"

Instead of forsaking taste, low-calorie or "light" beers may satisfy both sides of the (obviously stupid) argument, which is even more enticing now.

Since those commercials appeared, the number and variety of light beers has increased, and connoisseurs believe they taste better than ever.

"Beers are so diverse that brewers have many tools," says Jeff Alworth, author of The Beer Bible.

How do you make a low-calorie beverage recognized for its belly? Lucy Burningham, author of My Beer Year, says brewers reduce malt and grain carbs.

Also, alcohol is lowered. “One gram of alcohol contains about 7 calories, which is a very concentrated form of calories,” Burningham says.

So many low-calorie beers are available that it's easy to choose one that tantalizes.
