The eldest son of NBA superstar LeBron James, Bronny James, went into cardiac arrest in July because he was born with a heart defect, his family said in a statement on Friday.
"It is a significant anatomical and functional Congenital Heart Defect that can and will be treated," the family said in a statement.
"We are very sure that Bronny will get better soon and be able to play hoops again. We will keep giving the media updates and kindly remind
he family that they want their privacy."James, who is 18 years old, had a medical incident at the University of Southern California on July 24.
He was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Later that week, he was let out of the hospital.
In May, the teen made a promise to play for USC. ESPN placed him as the 19th best prospect for the class of 2023. He was a top point guard in high school. His father,
who has been talking about retiring in the past few months, has said that he wants to play in the NBA with his son one day.
"We feel you, and I'm so grateful," the Los Angeles Lakers player tweeted on July 27. "Everyone is fine. We have a happy and healthy family, and we can feel your love."
