The University of Colorado rallied to beat Colorado State on Saturday night, but two-way star Travis Hunter was transported to the hospital for an assessment in the third quarter at Folsom Field.
Hunter was ruled out and taken to the hospital after taking an illegal blow to his midriff on a Colorado sideline incompletion in the second quarter.
After the game, coach Deion Sanders said, “first thing I heard is he's going to be out a few weeks.”
Hunter played practically every Buffs snap this season at wide out and cornerback.
"The bad thing about losing Travis," defensive back Shilo Sanders said, "is like you're losing two players at once."
The Rams were called for two fouls when Hunter was hit. Safety Henry Blackburn was penalised for pass interference and nickel back Ayden Hector was called for unsportsmanlike behavior after a late hit out of bounds at Hunter's stomach.
Hunter played both offense and defense in the second quarter after coughing up a fumble that was returned for a touchdown.
When Hunter was hospitalized, the Buffaloes trailed the Rams 21-14 but won 43-35 in double overtime to move CU to 3-0 and CSU to 0-2.
After playing cornerback and receiver, Henry and Buffs quarterback Shedeur Sanders are early Heisman Trophy candidates.
