Important news regarding Chiefs TE Travis Kelce's knee injury and his availability for Week 1 against the Lions has just broken.

Travis Kelce, a top tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, injured his knee in a hyperextended position during Tuesday's practice.

The future Hall of Famer and his club were lucky to avert disaster.

A "long-term" injury to Kelce isn't expected, say NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

But his status for Thursday night's game against the Detroit Lions in Week 1 "is in doubt."

The Chiefs and Kelce must feel a great sense of relief. Only two days remain until the start of the season,

but the Chiefs may have to get by without their best offensive player.

Since his sophomore year in 2014, when he was 33 years old, the veteran player has played in at least 15 games every year.

Six times, Kelce has played in every game for the Chiefs during the regular season.
