After finishing the action-packed John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu Reeves reportedly requested franchise producer Basil Iwanyk to let the character lie in peace.
In an interview with Collider, Iwanyk explored the film's conclusion - and the possibility of additional chapters.
At the end of #4, Reeves' Wick engages in a fight royale with nemeses Donnie Yen's Caine and Bill Skarsgard's Marquis on the steps of the Sacre Coeur in Paris.
To cut a long story short, Wick appears to die after the battle."After the second, third, and fourth film, making these films is so exhausting and it destroys Keanu
physically and emotionally," Iwanyk stated in the interview. "By the end, he's always like, 'I can't do this again,' and we agree with him."
He's a shell of himself because he just goes for it. 'I want to be definitively killed by the end of this movie,' he said. "We were like, 'You know, we'll leave a 10% little opening.'"
Iwanyk, promoting the upcoming Wick spin-off The Continental, stated that Reeves and Wick director Chad Stahelski are "getting together to figure out what that story is" for another potential Wick chapter.
"The way I describe it is that they're like Paul McCartney and John Lennon, and I'm Ringo," Iwanyk remarked.
"They'll call me and say, 'All right, we're coming.'" Here's where you come in, and here's our narrative." While he doesn't explicitly promise a Chapter 5,
Iwanyk stated, "We all want another John Wick." We don't know what it will look like or when it will happen, but we love each other and this world."
