Melissa Joan Hart claims she was nearly sued and sacked from Sabrina the Teenage Witch for her risqué 1999 Maxim covershoot.
The 47-year-old actor, who lead the seven-season sitcom from 1996 to 2003, appeared in the October 1999 issue of the men's magazine in her underpants and a white bedsheet.
Hart was pictured with the headline “Sabrina your favorite witch without a stitch.”
Hart told the Monday (21 August) episode of Pod Meets World that the magazine's usage of her Sabrina character name violated her contract, even if the appearance was meant to promote Drive Me Crazy.
Hart said her contract required her to “never play the character naked”.
Hart was at the movie's New York premiere when her lawyer asked her about the Maxim photograph.
Her lawyer told her, “Well, you’re getting fired and sued from your show. Stop talking to the press and do nothing.”
She said her mother and producer, Paula Hart, called her to inquire what she did, and Hart said, “I don’t know, whatever my publicist told me to do at the photoshoot.
