Nebraska volleyball hits a world attendance record: 'Women's sports are a major deal here.'

Nebraska's women's volleyball team established a world record Wednesday night

when 92,000 people jammed Memorial Stadium to watch the Cornhuskers whitewash Omaha in three sets.

The Huskers broke the record for the biggest crowd at a women's athletic event with 92,003 supporters in Nebraska's football stadium, which seats over 85,000.

"I’ve probably sobbed five times today, I’m not exaggerating," head coach John Cook stated after the match "news conference.

I've had to bite my lip to keep it together several times. A very emotional day." Record: "There is a lot of satisfaction in that," Cook added.

It's a celebration of Nebraska volleyball at all levels, and we took a chance by playing in Memorial Stadium and breaking the record.

We showed the world how important volleyball is and that we desire the record."

I don't think anyone could have predicted it when it started."
