Outlander's creator reacts to Jamie Fraser's'stupid' decision in the midseason finale.

Matthew B. Roberts explained why Outlander's Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) nearly died again in season seven's second Battle of Saratoga.

Jamie fought other soldiers despite joining as a sniper and was nearly killed.

Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) fears losing her husband again in war and searches for him after the conflict.

She found him with two scavengers circling him to steal Jamie's body.Claire drew a sword and used terrible language to send the mother and son away.

Claire also realized Jamie was alive but seriously wounded from the war.

On the Starz show's official podcast, Outlander president Roberts said, “I always like when Jamie goes up and gets himself hurt usually and near death, Claire finds him.

“That visceral reaction of relief at seeing the loved one alive and well and wanting to shake him and say, ‘Why did you do that stupid thing you did?’ Then comfort becomes love.

"But I adore Claire's immediate reaction and Jamie's, who always tries to lighten things for the person he's talking to, whether it's Claire, Young Ian, Jenny, or someone he's talked to before.

He tried to calm them despite knowing he was in danger and his life was at stake.”
